Wilderness Wood, Hadlow Down
Wednesday August 15, 10.30am-12.30pm
£15. Age 6+
One thousand years ago, the Saxons lived here in ancient Wessex, then the Normans came. William the Conqueror slew King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, only 15 miles from Wilderness Woods. Local legend has it that a band of Harold’s loyal followers rescued his crown and hid it in these woods. All children between the age of six and 11 are invited to sign up as loyal Saxons and help find King Harold’s Missing Crown. Tasks on the venture include den building, nightwalking and crossing streams in the hope of finding the crown, which is hidden in a secret hideout – where brave Saxons must hide from the Normans and live the life of Saxons.
