With Worthing Theatres celebrating the best films of 1988, they are screening a double bill of remastered versions of John Carpenter’s cult classics Escape from New York and They Live. Escape from New York is a 1981 American post-apocalyptic science-fiction action film co-written, co-scored and directed by Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell, Lee Van Clef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasance, Isaac Hayes and Harry Dean Stanton. They Live is a sci fi horror movie written and  directed by Carpenter and stars Roddy Piper, Keith David and Meg Foster. Nada, a down-on-his-luck construction worker, discovers a pair of special sunglasses. Wearing them, he is able to see the world as it really is: people being bombarded by media and government with messages like Stay Asleep, No Imagination and Submit to Authority. Even scarier is that he is able to see that some usually normal-looking people are in fact ugly aliens in charge of the massive campaign to keep humans subdued.
