Cloudbusting: 40 Years of Kate Bush

It has been 40 years since Kate Bush debuted Wuthering Heights, something which Cloudbusting are eager to celebrate, writes Jack Smith. Haruomi Hosono

This is the first ever performance in Brighton by Haruomi Hosono, one of the most important and influential musical innovators of the past 50 years. He has played a key role in two of the most influential bands of Japan, Happy End, one of the first Japanese rock bands to sing in their own language, and electronic music trio Yellow Magic Orchestra, with Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Nakamoto. They achieved Beatles-esque levels of success in Japan and were a pioneering influence on the development of electronic music genres including hip hop and techno around the world. Hosono-san last visited the UK a decade ago with YMO for Massive Attack’s Meltdown Festival and returns to play his first solo shows in the country as he releases his new album Vu Ja De.

Nick Heyward: Woodland Echoes Tour 2018

Nick Heyward, former lead singer with 80s pop-funk New Wave group Haircut 100, released his new album Woodland Echoes last year. His first record in 18 years, it reached No 4 in the album charts and he’s now on a tour of the UK. The singer-songwriter had four Top 10 hit singles with Haircut 100, including Fantastic Day in 1982, and their debut album Pelican West reached No 2 in the UK album charts. Three improvisational luminaries perform together as Yunohana Variations for the first time in the UK. They are multi-instrumentalist YoshimiO, a drummer, member of the revolutionary group Boredoms and the leader of the experimental band OOIOO, avant-garde percussionist Susie Ibarra, known for her work as a performer within contemporary, avant-garde, jazz, classical and world music, and who performs in the band Dreamtime Ensemble, and artist Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is strongly rooted in exploration of moments and the hypnagogic state.
