This intensive five-day course combines two popular courses. Working in situ, in the prairie garden (pictured), participants will spend two days working directly into sketchbooks, followed by three days painting. Daily meditation and breathing exercises in this idyllic garden setting will ensure it is a fully inspirational and relaxing experience. Connecting the breath and body to the art of painting will help loosen up, focusing on the process rather than the product, being surprised by what emerges, rather like watching a garden grow.

For colour junkies, dyed raffia and coloured linen threads will be available to introduce a shot of ‘flower power’. Coiling is an ancient and traditional basketry technique used widely around the world to create both functional and ceremonial baskets. The course covers the basics of identifying suitable plant material, harvesting, drying and storing plant fibres, preparing for coiling, shaping and stitching coiled baskets using three coiling stitches. Coiling is a slow and meditative basketry technique so participants can expect to make one medium-sized mat or a small basket over the weekend.
