On this intensive two-day course, tutors Amanda Millar, an ecologist and qualified beekeeper, and beekeepers Mike Cullen and Jill Sales get you started with beekeeping, explaining about the honey bee, choosing hives and equipment, how and where to set up an apiary, bee management, pests and diseases, and how to extract honey. The course includes a chance to see the different equipment available, with course notes to take home and an inspection of a hive, weather permitting.

Wild About Colour

During a series of weekends, basic dyeing and printing processes will be covered, including bucket dyeing, tray dyeing with multiple colours, printing processes with sticks and clamps, screen printing, discharge, mark making, flour paste resist, wax resist, mono printing and more. Painting in the Garden Masterclass

The garden at Charleston, the home of the artist Vanessa Bell ,which became a meeting place for the artistic Bloomsbury Group, was designed by artist and critics Roger Fry and it was planted to be painted. Sussex-based artist Julian Le Bas gives a day’s intensive painting tuition when students can lose themselves in the atmosphere of the Walled Garden and surrounding grounds. Looking at approaches to composition, there’s a particular emphasis on colour. The class is suitable for improvers and students should bring their own paints. Easels, boards and brushes are provided.
